Kirk R. Maples, Ph.D., has served as Anacor's Senior Vice President, Program Management since August 2002. From December 2001 to August 2002, Dr. Maples worked with Anacor as part of his responsibilities as a consultant to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA. Prior to joining DARPA as a consultant in 2001, Dr. Maples was Senior Vice President, Research of Centaur Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical research and development company, where he had served in senior management positions with research oversight since 1993. Dr. Maples received a B.S. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Duke University. He was Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy from 1991 to 1993.
